Nigeria TV Info â Ezekiel Nathaniel Breaks National Record, Finishes Fourth in 400m Hurdles at World Athletics Championships
Nigeriaâs Ezekiel Nathaniel delivered a record-breaking performance in the menâs 400m hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Friday but narrowly missed out on a podium finish after placing fourth.
The 22-year-old clocked 47.11 seconds at the Tokyo National Stadium, smashing his own national record of 47.31 seconds, which he had set on August 16 in Poland. Despite the remarkable feat, Nathaniel finished behind USAâs Rai Benjamin, who clinched gold in 46.52 seconds, Brazilâs Allison dos Santos with silver in 46.84 seconds, and Qatarâs Ismail Doudai Abakar, who secured bronze in 47.00 seconds.
Running from lane six, Nathaniel had a slow start but produced a strong late surge in the final stretch to secure fourth place. The race ended in drama after Benjamin was accused of interference for knocking a hurdle into a rivalâs path. Nathaniel was briefly promoted to third place, but a successful appeal by the American camp overturned the decision, reinstating the original results and leaving Nathaniel in fourth.
