The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the final shortlist for the 2025 African Player of the Year award, featuring some of the continent’s finest football stars. Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Egypt’s Mohammed Salah, and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi headline the top contenders for Africa’s most prestigious individual football honour.

The ten-man shortlist also includes Frank Anguissa (Cameroon), Fiston Mayele (DR Congo), Denis Bouanga (Gabon), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea), Oussama Lamlouki (Morocco), Iliman Ndiaye (Senegal), and Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal).

According to CAF, the list celebrates the most exceptional African performers across Europe and beyond during the 2024–2025 football season, recognizing their excellence, consistency, and impact for both club and country.

Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen remains one of the leading favourites after a remarkable campaign where he scored 37 goals and registered 7 assists in 41 matches, guiding his club to two major trophies.

Liverpool star Mohammed Salah also strengthened his case with an incredible 34 goals and 23 assists in 52 games, helping the Reds to domestic and international success.

Meanwhile, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi enjoyed a trophy-laden year with Paris Saint-Germain, tallying 9 goals and 12 assists in 48 matches, and lifting four titles.

CAF stated that the winner will be determined through a voting process involving CAF’s Technical Committee, African football legends, journalists, and national team coaches and captains.

The final announcement and award presentation are expected to take place at the CAF Awards Gala later this year.
