AFCON Trophy Arrives Lagos, Kicks Off Continental Tour

Lagos, Nigeria – The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy touched down in Lagos on Wednesday, sparking excitement among football fans as it began its much-anticipated continental tour.

Organised by TotalEnergies Nigeria, the AFCON Trophy Tour commenced at Eko Tower 2, Victoria Island, accompanied by music, fanfare, and celebrations. The trophy then made a brief stop at the TotalEnergies Onigbagbo filling station in Maryland before concluding at Marcellina’s Place, Ikeja GRA.

Football enthusiasts flocked to each location, taking photos and cheering as the glittering trophy was paraded through the city, creating a festive atmosphere.

Speaking at the event, Abdullahi Umar, General Manager of Retail and Cards at TotalEnergies Nigeria, explained why Lagos was chosen as the tour’s starting point.

“Nigeria pulses with the rhythm of the beautiful game,” Umar said. “This country holds a special place in African football history. From legendary players to unforgettable moments on the pitch, Nigeria has consistently shaped the narrative of the sport across the continent. That’s why we chose to begin this journey here, where football is not just a sport, but a way of life.”

Umar further revealed that the tour will continue across four other African countries — South Africa, Angola, Cîte d’Ivoire, and Morocco, the host of the next edition of the tournament.
