Bayern Munich Defeat PSG 2-1 to Maintain Perfect Champions League Start

Bayern Munich continued their dominant start to the season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, despite finishing the match with ten men. The win extends Bayern’s remarkable run to 16 wins from 16 matches in all competitions, reinforcing their status as early favourites in the UEFA Champions League.

Luis DĂaz was the hero and villain of the night, scoring both goals for Bayern before being sent off shortly before half-time for a reckless challenge on Achraf Hakimi.

PSG responded through João Neves early in the second half and went on to control possession, pressing relentlessly in search of an equaliser. However, Bayern stood firm defensively to hand the French champions their first Champions League defeat since last season’s quarter-final second leg against Aston Villa.

The result leaves Bayern top of the 36-team Champions League league phase with a maximum of 12 points, while PSG sit third, three points adrift and now facing fresh injury concerns.

PSG’s Ousmane DembĂ©lĂ©, making his first Champions League start of the season, limped off after just 25 minutes, adding to manager Luis Enrique’s growing injury troubles. Hakimi also left the pitch early following the challenge that led to DĂaz’s dismissal.

PSG started brightly with an aggressive high press, but Bayern punished them early when Díaz reacted quickest to a rebound after Michael Olise’s shot was pushed away by Lucas Chevalier, giving the German champions the lead inside four minutes.

Bayern doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute when Serge Gnabry struck the post, and DĂaz seized on a defensive lapse from Marquinhos to slot in his second goal.

Though PSG improved after the break and created several chances, Bayern held on to secure all three points in a statement victory that underscores their title ambitions.
