NPFL Fines Katsina United N9 Million Over Barau FC Match Incident Despite Club Denial

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has slapped Katsina United with a N9 million fine for multiple rule violations during their recent 1-1 draw against Barau FC at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

The disciplinary action comes after Barau FC’s Director of Media Operations, Ahmad Gwale, claimed that Nana Abraham, a Barau FC player, was stabbed in the neck by a pitch invader during the match. Gwale alleged that “one person from the Katsina United bench or one of their fans” attacked Abraham with “something like a sharp object” shortly after Barau FC scored their equaliser in the 69th minute.

Katsina United, however, has denied the allegations, describing them as “untrue” and insisting that “none of the club’s supporters invaded the pitch and attacked a Barau FC player during the match.” The club added that although tensions rose due to controversial refereeing decisions, the situation “was managed within the confines of order and security.”

The NPFL’s ruling highlights the league’s commitment to enforcing strict safety and conduct regulations, even amid conflicting reports from clubs involved.
