W’ Cup Play-Offs: Aubameyang Fires Warning to Super Eagles as Gabon Coach Expresses Confidence

Former Arsenal striker and Gabon captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has sent a strong message to the Super Eagles ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs. The 34-year-old forward, who has rediscovered his scoring form with Marseille, declared that Gabon is ready to give Nigeria “a tough battle” as they seek qualification for the global showpiece in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking during a press conference in Libreville, Aubameyang said the Panthers were fully prepared and motivated to prove their worth against the three-time African champions. “Nigeria is a great footballing nation with quality players, but we are not coming to admire them. We are coming to fight for our spot in the World Cup,” he said confidently.

Gabon’s head coach, Thierry Mouyouma, echoed similar optimism, revealing that his team had worked extensively on tactics and discipline. “We respect the Super Eagles, but we have studied their weaknesses and are prepared to exploit them. This is our time to make history,” Mouyouma said.

The first leg of the play-offs will be held in Lagos, while the return fixture takes place in Libreville a week later. Nigeria, led by coach Finidi George, are under pressure to return to the World Cup after missing the 2022 edition in Qatar.

Fans across Africa are eagerly anticipating what promises to be a thrilling clash between two sides determined to secure a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
