Petit Backs Osimhen to End Chelsea’s No. 9 Curse
Former France international and Arsenal legend, Emmanuel Petit, has thrown his weight behind Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, saying the forward has the quality and mentality to finally solve Chelsea FC’s long-standing struggles with the No. 9 shirt.
Chelsea have battled inconsistency in attack for years, with several strikers failing to meet expectations since the departure of iconic forwards like Didier Drogba. The so-called “No. 9 curse” has seen big-money signings struggle under pressure at Stamford Bridge, leaving fans frustrated and the club searching for a reliable goal scorer.
Petit believes Osimhen is different. Speaking in an interview, he praised the Napoli striker’s physical strength, movement, and hunger for goals, describing him as a “complete modern striker” capable of thriving in the Premier League. He added that Osimhen’s aggressive style and work rate would suit Chelsea’s attacking needs.
Osimhen, who has been one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards in recent seasons, continues to attract interest from top clubs due to his consistent goal-scoring record and leadership on the pitch.
If Chelsea manage to secure his signature, Petit insists the Nigerian international could finally put an end to the club’s long-standing striker problems and restore fear in front of goal at Stamford Bridge.
