Sebastián Soria Eyes World Cup History After Qatar Call-Up At 42
Veteran Qatar forward Sebastián Soria is on the verge of making football history after being named in the country’s preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 42-year-old Uruguay-born striker was included in coach Julen Lopetegui’s 34-man provisional squad for the tournament, which is scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026. Qatar must reduce the list to 26 players before the competition officially kicks off.
If Soria secures a place in the final squad and plays during the tournament, he would become the oldest outfield player ever to appear at a FIFA World Cup.
The record is currently held by legendary Cameroon forward Roger Milla, who famously featured at the 1994 World Cup in the United States at the age of 42.
Soria, who has been a key figure in Qatari football for years, earned recognition for his contributions to the national team, helping elevate the country’s football profile on the international stage.
Football fans around the world will now wait to see whether the experienced striker makes the final cut and writes his name into World Cup history.
