US Revokes Over 100,000 Visas, Targets Students and Specialised Workers Over Criminal Cases
Washington, D.C. — The United States Department of State has revoked more than 100,000 visas, including thousands issued to students and specialised workers, following encounters with U.S. law enforcement over criminal activity.
The announcement was made on Monday via a post on X by the Department of State, describing the action as part of broader efforts to strengthen domestic security and tighten immigration enforcement.
According to the department, the revocations include approximately 8,000 student visas and 2,500 specialised visas belonging to individuals who had encounters with U.S. law enforcement related to criminal cases. While specific offences were not detailed, officials said the move targets visa holders considered a security risk.
“We will continue to deport these thugs to keep America safe,” the department stated, signalling a firm stance against foreign nationals involved in criminal activity.
U.S. authorities noted that the visa cancellations form part of ongoing security measures, warning that further enforcement actions and deportations are expected in the coming weeks.
The development underscores a tougher immigration posture by U.S. authorities, particularly affecting international students and skilled workers, as the government intensifies efforts to crack down on crime-linked visa holders and reinforce national security.
