Pate Knocks Africa for Outsourcing Malaria Fight

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, has faulted Africa for what he described as “outsourcing” the fight against malaria to foreign actors.

Pate noted that despite the continent carrying the heaviest share of the global malaria burden, reliance on external intervention has continued to dominate Africa’s response.

He cautioned that unless African countries take greater responsibility—both financially and politically—the target of eliminating malaria by 2030 will remain elusive.

The minister stressed that homegrown leadership, investment in healthcare systems, and stronger political will are critical if the continent is to win the decades-long battle against the disease.
