Nigeria TV Info — Louvre Museum Reopens Days After €88 Million Royal Jewellery Heist

Paris, France — October 22, 2025

The world-renowned Louvre Museum in Paris reopened its doors on Wednesday, three days after a daring daylight robbery in which masked thieves escaped with historic royal jewellery valued at an estimated €88 million ($102 million).

Live footage captured by Reuters TV showed long queues of visitors once again streaming through the museum’s iconic glass pyramid entrance, signaling a cautious return to normalcy after an audacious crime that stunned the world.

According to officials, the robbers — wearing balaclavas — used a crane to smash an upstairs window early Sunday before targeting an area that displayed the French crown jewels. They then sped away on motorbikes, evading capture.

The theft has reignited debate over security lapses at the museum, which houses some of the world’s most famous artworks, including Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. The Louvre, which welcomed 8.7 million visitors in 2024, has reportedly been facing financial and operational pressures due to what insiders describe as underinvestment in security systems.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the incident on X (formerly Twitter), calling it “an attack on a heritage that we cherish because it is our History.” He assured the public that authorities are determined to recover the stolen items and bring the culprits to justice.

Paris Prosecutor Laure Beccuau confirmed that the thieves struck around 9:30 a.m. (0730 GMT) while the museum was already open to the public, entering the Galerie d’Apollon, the section that houses the royal jewels.

Investigations are ongoing as security footage is being analyzed and international art crime agencies have joined efforts to track the stolen treasures.
