Alleged Terrorism: I’ve No Case to Answer, Let Me Go — Nnamdi Kanu Tells Court
The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the terrorism charges filed against him by the Federal Government. Through his legal counsel, Kanu argued that the charges lack merit, insisting that the prosecution has failed to establish any prima facie case linking him to terrorism or unlawful activities.
Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021, maintained that his prolonged detention violates his fundamental rights, calling for his immediate release. His lawyer emphasized that the government’s case relies on unsubstantiated claims without credible evidence or witnesses.
The Federal Government, however, urged the court to allow the trial to proceed, insisting that it has sufficient evidence to prove the charges. Justice Binta Nyako adjourned the matter for ruling on Kanu’s “no-case submission,” which could determine whether he will face a full trial or be discharged.
The case continues to attract national and international attention, with human rights groups urging the government to ensure a fair and transparent judicial process.
