Kwara Governor Meets CAN, Confirms Military Arrival in Eruku After Church Attack

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State, held a meeting with the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ilorin following a deadly attack on a church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area. The Tuesday night attack on the Christ Apostolic Church left two worshippers dead and others abducted.

During the meeting, the governor confirmed that the Nigerian military had been deployed to Eruku to stabilize the area, following approval from the federal government.

AbdulRazaq said he had visited Eruku on Tuesday alongside the Commissioner of Police, the State Director of the Department of State Services, and traditional leaders, including the Busari Olarewaju, Owa of Eruku.

He assured the community and CAN that “You are not alone. Both the state and federal governments are making concerted efforts to ensure peace is fully restored.”

The governor also announced that new security arrangements were being rolled out across Kwara South and North, including increased surveillance of schools and places of worship. He noted that the president had authorised over 900 additional troops for the state.

In addition, the government ordered the temporary closure of schools in five local government areas — Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin and Oke Ero — due to heightened security threats.

Governor AbdulRazaq condemned the attack and another incident in the Bokungi area of Edu LGA, where rice-farmers were attacked, calling both “wholly condemned” and asking for prayers for the departed.

He also pledged to repair the Eruku road and renewed calls for the dualisation of the Ilorin-Kabba corridor, highlighting its strategic importance for movement across the north-central region.
