AGBADO, OGUN — Residents of Agbado in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State took to the streets on Monday to protest the persistent flooding that has continued to devastate the community.

Brandishing placards and chanting solidarity songs, the protesters accused the state government of neglecting their plight despite repeated appeals for intervention.

According to the residents, the perennial flooding is largely due to failed drainage systems and blocked canals along the Alakuko Road to Aboro, Owonikoko axis, and other parts of the area that overflow anytime it rains.

They said the overflowing drainage channels have caused severe flooding, leaving many families homeless and destroying several properties.

One of the protesters, Mrs. Folashade Ogunleye, said the situation has become unbearable. “Each time it rains, we are always scared of water entering our houses. Many people have lost their belongings, and nothing has been done to address the problem,” she lamented.

Another resident, Mr. Abdullahi Olamide, noted that the situation has persisted for years. “We have written letters and complained to government officials, but they have not done anything. We want the state government to come to our aid and fix the drainage,” he said.

The residents called on the Ogun State Government to urgently intervene and construct proper drainage channels to prevent more destruction and restore normalcy to the community.

They also appealed to relevant authorities to carry out desilting of canals in the affected areas and provide relief materials to families already affected by the disaster.
