The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on this milestone, describing it as a moment of reflection and unity.

He further emphasized the importance of patriotism, peace, and collective responsibility in building a greater Nigeria, urging citizens to remain steadfast in their commitment to national progress.

Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and has since marked the day annually with celebrations across the nation.
