Qatar Emir Condemns Atrocities in Sudanâs Al-Fashir, Calls for Urgent End to Violence
Qatarâs Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has strongly condemned the atrocities reportedly committed against civilians in the city of Al-Fashir in Sudan, as clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue to escalate.
Speaking on Tuesday in Doha during the opening session of the Second World Summit for Social Development, Sheikh Tamim expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in North Darfur.
âI cannot conclude this address without pointing to our collective shock from the horror of the atrocities that have been committed in the city of al-Fashir in Sudan, and our deep condemnation of it,â the Emir said.
Al-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur, reportedly fell under RSF control after an 18-month siege that severely restricted access to food, medicine, and other critical supplies. Humanitarian agencies and local sources have reported widespread human rights abuses, including alleged massacres, summary executions, sexual violence, attacks on aid workers, forced displacements, and mass looting.
