Dangote Threatens Kaduna Businessman, Kailani Mohammed, With N100bn Lawsuit Over Alleged Defamation
Abuja, Nigeria â December 22, 2025 â Dr. Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group and widely regarded as Africaâs richest businessman, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Kaduna-based businessman Engr. Kailani Mohammed, demanding a retraction and apology over comments he made on national television â or face a N100 billion defamation lawsuit.
In a strongly worded legal letter dated December 20, 2025 and served through his lawyer, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Dr. Ogwu James Onoja (SAN), Dangote accused Mohammed of making false, reckless and malicious statements during a TrustTV News interview aired on December 17, 2025, in which he questioned Dangoteâs wealth origins and alleged involvement in âunclean businessâ activities in Port Harcourt in the 1980sâ.
The legal notice, titled âDemand for public explanation, retraction and unreserved public apology on your libellous publication against Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCONâ, says Mohammedâs statements were baseless, scandalous, and damaging to Dangoteâs reputation locally and internationally.
Dangoteâs attorneys demanded that Mohammed:
- Publicly explain and substantiate his claims on the same TrustTV platform to the same audience, or retract them entirely;
- Issue an unreserved public apology broadcast with equal prominence;
- Pay N100 billion in damages for reputational harm;
- Provide a written undertaking to desist from further defamatory statements.
The letter firmly denied that Dangote ever engaged in any form of business or wealth-generating activity in Port Harcourt at any time, calling the allegations âentirely fictitious, unfounded and malicious.â
Dangote also warned that failure to comply within the stipulated seven days would result in initiating civil proceedings in a competent court â including claims for aggravated damages â as well as reporting the matter to law enforcement agencies for possible criminal defamation action.
