Abuja Protest: Court Remands Kanu’s Lawyer, Brother, 10 Others in Prison Custody

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, his brother, and ten others in prison custody over their alleged roles in a protest linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The suspects were arraigned on charges of unlawful assembly, disturbance of public peace, and incitement following the #FreeNnamdiKanu demonstration that rocked parts of the Federal Capital Territory on Monday.

Prosecution counsel told the court that the protest caused disruptions in major areas of Abuja and posed a threat to national security. The defense, however, argued that the demonstration was peaceful and within constitutional rights.

Justice Binta Nyako ordered that the accused persons be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of their bail application, scheduled for hearing next week. Security around the court premises was tight as sympathizers and activists gathered to show solidarity.
